"True pioneers do not seek approval."
Unscene Chimera is the comprehensive main frame that links a multiplicity of platforms to create uniquely moving and unforgettably mindful experiences.
"What is art?"
Our productions are focused toward psyche-immersive and thematic drama rather than story based staging; these are placed within a variety of contemporary theatre-arts settings. Triggers embedded within our ambiguous works authorize the spectator to create their own subjective scenario and interpretation of its consequences.
The spectator is the artist in residence.
'I see a view of the soul.'
"Should art comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable or is it sometime else?"
('I see a view of the soul.' is a translation from the ancient Greek - 'Theatron dis Psychis.')
Tone Poems. In conjunction with drama in movement, mood driven lighting and magical visual effects etc. these triggers, mysteriously and furtively hidden in the ambiguous music and Foley tonal poetry, motivate an audience to travel on journey of self-discovery - A journey solely of their own design - A journey filled with a rich abundance of exciting, unexpected and innovative experiences - A journey with a diversity of destinations - A journey that can be relished from a alternative vantage point time and again.
To intellectualize further – To craft our art, as an integral part of our productions, Unscene Chimera use a variety of techniques and deflecting strategies. For example, we use inflective ambiguity, lexical ambiguity, syntactical ambiguity, metonymy, metaphor and many other methods. We do this through our body language techniques, vocals, visuals and diverse musical genres.
We also use this approach to shape the sub-textual structure and encompass the basic subject matter of our works by characterizing our visuals, costumes, movement skills, music and the fundamental poetic spoken tags within the soundscape music.
Creating a life-force of collaboration, integration, and artistic freedom, we work cross-culturally with individuals from an all-encompassing range of ages and circumstances; professional artistes and artists who enjoy a variety of performance and visual arts proficiencies.
Who knows how it may evolve?
Chimera encourages its artistes, both professionals and students, to flourish.
The concept of the Unscene is considered to be the legacy - gifted to all its associates – a spirit, safe in their hands, that will grow in value - reshaped by them well into the future.
We offer them the opportunity to use their own initiative and a space for them to strengthen their exceptional talents. Consequently, our approach to rehearsal and performance is that of a structured choreographic pattern in conjunction with passages of knowledged improvisation.
With this in mind, we use an investigative thematic approach to each production, getting the inspiration for the majority of our contemporary choreography from a fascination with body language and everyday activities; those of all living creatures and in particular the human animal.
We extend, exaggerate and develop this language into extremely stylized movement, a beauty of line in space, pattern, rhythm, unsullied dance, comedy and tragedy.
Swiftly adapting to the space and the surroundings provided.
We are more than happy working on a proscenium-arch stage, in the round, open air or warehouse situation; with an intimate audience in close proximity or, as in a stadium, at a great distance.
IMMERSIVE TONAL POEMS - COHESIVE SOUNDS & MUSIC IN MOTION.
Rather like an aromatic fragrance with its top notes, middle notes and base notes, our contemporary repertoire of music is constructed in a similar way. This thematic tiered structure enables a choreographer or performer the freedom to choose the component most suited to their particular aptitude; consequentially, the most appropriate dramatic outcome. For example, they may choose to move to the rhythmic beat or the vocals, an emotive and ambient sound or the spoken word or fluctuate between a diversity of components.
Moreover, all our recent music-drama, Tonal Poetry, has been written into both 5.1 Surround Sound and at the extremities of Stereophonic Sound giving it a wide-ranging cinematic impact. This truly immersive environmental experience is a vital component in the activation of the inventive subconscious of each and every individual audience member - A journey solely of their own design.
(Please note that, at this moment in time, we have chosen to limit our immersive sound projects to live performance only.
Therefore, we have not offered any of their content to the internet for its scrutiny. Nonetheless, should you be interested in listening to one or more of our creations, please be kind enough to contact us and, at that point, we would be more than happy to give you a private audience.)

______________________________
AT THIS EXACT MOMENT.
Here is a word from the ideas person – The Creative Catalyst.
Okay, let’s cut to the chase.
Though sometimes hard to undertake, honesty and plain speaking are two of my main principals.
For that reason, this is how we stand with Unscene Chimera at this exact moment in time.
It is no secret that, like most arts organizations, I am seeking funding so that the company can stand on its own feet. Hence, contributions are very welcome - carefully recorded/accounted for and accepted with unending gratitude.
A formidable force – A celebrated name in the world of entertainment!
Likewise, it is no secret that, though I am by no means inexperienced in a treasure-trove of production activities and skills onstage as well as backstage, the company is still in its fledgling phase. The situation is that I am now seeking associates to give us the wings; the muscle which will enable us to fly; to become a full-bodied, vibrant and colourful living being.
For that reason, I AM LOOKING FOR COLLABORATORS – INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE A VARIETY OF SKILL SETS.
PRIMARILY I AM LOOKING TO FIND A DEDICATED PRODUCER-INSTIGATOR-FACILITATOR and A BODY OF TALENTED ARTISTES:
A troupe of highly energetic and inspired, UK based, folk; some who may possibly wish to take on more than one working role within the company or may wish to further their careers by developing additional skills. You could be a musician with acting expertise or a dance & drama practitioner who would like to take a major role in the documentation of our works and caring for an ever emergent Unscene Chimera. You could be an arts producer: A person who loves creativity unconditionally - a professional prepared to tackle the finances and promotion of the company. You could be a lighting designer or sound technician looking for a contemporary and innovative outlet for your work. You could be a professional puppeteer seeking to develop your performance skills via the extension of the human frame; this by using giant puppets as a tool for expression thru dance, mime and acting. You could be a mime artiste, dancer, or circus performer who needs a unique outlet for your performance skills. You could be an actor, painter, maker or even accountant who likes the idea of being involved in this unique creativity. You could be …..
AS A COLLABORATOR, YOU WILL GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND CREATIVITY OF OUR TROUPE, AND WE WOULD ALSO ASSIST YOU TO METAMORPHOSE YOUR ROLE IN THE COMPANY IN A DIRECTION IN WHICH YOU FEEL MOST COMFORTABLE.
“THIS IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY. Please don’t be shy – What have you got to lose?"
“WHY NOT START BY HAVING AN INFORMAL CHAT WITH US?”
In addition, we continue to pursue connections with Art Installation Spaces, Corporate Advertisers, Theatres, Artists and other Creatives, Galleries, Sight Specific Venues etc.
To reiterate some preceding words:
'The notion of the Unscene is that it should be considered a legacy - gifted to a Chimera of talented associates.
A spirit, safe in their creative hands, it will be reshaped by time and circumstance, and will henceforward grow in value and belonging.'
Remember, I am always open to suggestions and ideas - So let's collaborate and get buzzzzzzzzin'.
Cheers,
Jevon Antoni-Jay.
Jevon Antoni-Jay was born in Cardiff, South Wales, and whilst at school his interests were already focused on music, art and dance.
His professional training as a visual artist, designer and musician began at Dartington College of Arts, and from here it was time to focus on dance.
At the Royal Ballet School, he studied classical ballet along with his studies in a diversity of contemporary techniques, character, jazz and tap.
He also benefited greatly from the experience of superlative talents such Rachel Cameron, Maria Fay, mime and mask director Claude Chagrin in the UK and Lia Schubert at the Balettakademien, in Stockholm, Sweden.
Jevon’s career in the theatre began as a dancer with Den Norske Ballett, Oslo, where he danced alongside the iconic Rudolf Nureyev and director-dancer Sonia Arova.
He then relocated to Celia Franca’s The National Ballet of Canada.
Later, he progressed into actor and singer roles in films such as Bobby in ‘Rhythm and Blues’ which he also costumed and choreographed, the German Doctor Hofstein in ‘Trouble on Earth’ and theatre productions that included the rock-musical ‘Hair’ directed by Victor Spinetti.
At this time, he also taught movement at the renowned Arts Education School in London and choreographed/directed for Leeds Play House.
Together with his work on the classics such as ‘The Canterbury Tales’, Jevon’s original creations were receiving acclaim, two of which were ‘Cloud Flowers’ for Festival Ballet’s (AKA: English National Ballet) experimental evenings and ‘Black and White Make Grey’ for Club 7 and Nationaltheatret in Norway.
Jevon’s first set and costume designs were created while with Den Norske Ballett for their production of George Balanchine’s ballet, ‘Symphony in C’. Therefore, costume design became his next diversification.
Utilising his art training, he worked as senior costume designer, on a myriad of film, theatre and television productions and in partnership with Stephan Harrington, formed The Theatre of the Primitive Future.
This costume and props making company with accompanying rehearsal rooms, in the heart of Smithfield, London, allowed Jevon to produce his own design work while working on productions instigated by other distinguished designers and on projects such as Doctor Who, Flash Gordon, Arabian Adventure and so on.
His own work was with stars in TV, theatre and film like Elton John, Vera Lynn, Duran Duran, Ronnie Corbett, Bruce Forsyth, Stanley Baxter, Faith Brown, Sarah Churchill, Kate Robbins, Lisa Stansfield, Max Wall, Wayne Sleep, Jane Darling, Rick Ashley, Cilla Black, Omar Sharif, Adam Ant - countless named artistes and dance shows.
Furthermore, he created on productions such as Bettina Jonic’s ‘Ghost Games’ at the Royal Opera House Studio and, in contrast, a Greek entry for Eurovision in Athens and Joop van den Ende’s Studio Aalsmeer in the Netherlands.
His credits in design, choreography and direction were recognized with a First Prize in Baden Baden for his contribution to the television production of the musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat, a BAFTA nomination for ‘Stanley Baxter on Television’, a Hollywood Music Award for his work on ‘Venus’ for the pop group Bananarama and, commissioned by East Sussex County Council, his troupe gained a first prize at the South of England Show for their rendition of ‘Ye Olde Country Folk’.
Continually evolving and cultivating his talents.
After having worked on collaborations with jazz musicians Barbara Thompson, Derek Wadswoth, Laurie-Scott Baker and Roy Civil he was again given the opportunity to expand his capabilities. When offered a scholarship by the internationally renowned opera coach Nina Walker to study, Jevon gratefully accepted the opportunity to continue his training as a singer-soloist-Wagnerian heldentenor.
As a singer-soloist he performed in a wealth of concerts, both classical and contemporary, such as ‘One Night Only’ at London's Hammersmith Lyric Theatre, the UK tour of ‘The Radio Days’, and equally in many classical or contemporary operas like George Frideric Handel’s ‘Acis and Galatea’, Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘La Forza del Destino’, ‘Boudica’, as Trinculo in Guy Richardson's ‘The Strangest of Islands’ and Billy Leary in Shirley Thompson’s ‘A Child of the Jago’ at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, UK.
Beside these exploits, he started creating and performing his own electro-acoustic compositions in collaboration with the well-established university lecturer/ contemporary composer Ric Graebner. They created a variety of works including 'Helsingør - A Castle of Words' for the Royal Pavilion Museum that used extracts of speeches, both poignant and atmospheric, from Shakespeare's 'Hamlet'.
Now, in the present day, he writes and records his own music-scenescapes by solely manipulating his voice, his poetic prose, ambient sounds and musical instruments both acoustically or electronically. These, with the addition of his innovative idiosyncratic video and photographic scenic backdrops, he delivers to Unscene Chimera for their presentations.
As a Creative Catalyst Jevon’s output develops exponentially.
His non-linear writing is answerable to much of his involvement in facilitating courses for those with learning disabilities, with mental health issues and as a social worker focusing on young people with challenging behaviour. This fascination with our behavioural-evolution 'Nature or Nurture' also motivates his directorial choreography and scenescape-music-drama compositions.
Additionally, looking back as to years when he was a ballet dancer, Jevon has always had a fascination with the application of stage make-up. As a result, he was determined to improve his skills in that field by studying make-up design at Charles Fox and prosthetic make-up with Rob Smith in the UK.
He consequently uses this attribute in combination with his improvisational skills to anthropomorphize spellbinding characters at social and corporate events as for example: 'Salvador Dali at the Dorchester Hotel – London UK’, 'Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - Oslo Norway' 'Dracula’, ‘The Afro-dancing Witch Doctor’, ‘Stinky the Dog’, ‘Scary the Scarecrow’ so on and so forth.
When time permits, he also works as a photographic, commercial and fine art model and continues with his own personal art work and painting.
